House of Cards is an upcoming U.S. television series that is set to star Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright[2]. Cards will be a political drama that will be produced by Spacey and David Fincher, who will direct the pilot episode.[3] The show will mark Netflix's introduction into original programming.[1]
House of Cards will be based on a BBC mini series of the same name. The reboot will take place in the United States and be streamed via Netflix. Netflix has ordered 26 episodes of its first original series which will air over two seasons, starting in late 2012 after the video streaming company outbid HBO and AMC for the rights of the show.[2][4] The original, BBC version, was based on a novel from best selling, British author Michael Dobbs. The novel explores the "ruthless underside of British politics at the end of the Thatcher era."[3] It is currently unclear how the miniseries will be adapted, but it will cover politics in the United States.
The U.S. version will be set in modern times against the backdrop of electoral politics. The pilot episode will be written by Beau Willimon and directed by David Fincher. It will feature Kevin Spacey as the main character. He will be playing a ruthless politician with his eye on the top job in Washington.[3][1]
